SEO : Search Engine Optimization

What is SEO? SEO or search engine optimization is content, blog posts, articles, or websites that have been optimized to attract the attention of search engine crawlers (which are sometimes called spiders).

SEO requires the use of keywords, and sometimes uses summaries and resource boxes as well.  Search engine optimization that is done well doesn’t only attract the search engine crawlers or spiders but also attracts attention from customers and potential customers.

This is the reason that well-written articles, well-designed websites, or blog posts are needed.

There are two major types of SEO, and one of them will get you in trouble with the search engines sooner or later.

This type of SEO is called ‘blackhat SEO’ and can involve keyword stuffing, using invisible text, using url cloaking, using doorway pages, using automatic content generators, and/or using url cloaking.

Black-hat SEO Techniques

Keyword stuffing involves putting long lists of keywords into your articles or blog posts while providing very little actual content. Doorway pages are fake pages that the end consumer (the reader or person who is searching for real results) will never see because they are solely for the benefit of the search engine spiders; these pages are used to trick the spiders into giving the site a higher search engine rank than it actually deserves.

Invisible text often involves using keywords that are the same color as the background; this technique means that actual visitors to your articles, web pages, or blog posts won’t be able to read or see the text. Another blackhat SEO technique is to initiate false copyright infringement claims against your competition in hopes of driving down their placement on search engine result pages.

These types of complaints can even result in your competitions’ results not showing up at all on search engine result pages. The knowing use of duplicate content is another form of blackhat SEO as well.

The Second Type of SEO

White-hat SEO is the exact opposite of blackhat SEO in that it is comprised of legitimate techniques that are used to attract both search engine spiders and real customers (or potential customers) to your website, blog posts, or articles.  One of the major components of whitehat SEO is well-written content with keywords appearing as they naturally would.

Also, it is wise to use a duplicate content validation tool such as Copyscape or Plagium so that you can avoid even accidental copying of content.  Another useful tool in SEO is a search engine simulator that will display the contents of your articles, blog posts, or web pages in exactly the manner that the search engine spider will see them.

One very basic SEO tool is the use of tags; tags should relate in some way to the content contained in your articles or other content.  For example, if your content is about deep sea fishing, you could use tags about outdoor activities, fishing guides, how to clean fish, types of fish, fishing equipment, fishing lures, etc.

You probably shouldn’t use tags about deer hunting, ammunition, or other tags that aren’t related to deep-sea fishing.
